Carrickfergus Castle Pedestrian Access Development Approaching Completion

Relinea are nearing the completion of the outdoor pedestrian access area of the new sectional building within Carrickfergus Castle.

Composite slip resistant decking along with high visibility anti-slip walkway covers and stair tread covers (DDA 2004 compliant) were supplied and installed by Relinea to provide added health and safety for visitors to the castle by preventing the risk of slips and trips – particularly in wet and frost conditions.

Bespoke GRP handrails were further supplied to surround the walkway and decking area for additional pedestrian safety, whilst providing warm to touch and structural strength benefits.

Considering that the castle is situated on the northern shore of Belfast Lough, rusting and deterioration were a major concern on the site due to sea spray corrosion. Since GRP possesses high corrosion resistant and maintenance free characteristics, the client chose Relinea’s GRP pedestrian safety products over traditionally corrosive steel and timber materials.

The project is scheduled for completion at the beginning of June 2015.
