Relinea Celebrates Financial Freedom
Just three years after becoming an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), Relinea has achieved financial freedom, an extraordinary milestone that cements the company’s place as a leader in the composites industry. This achievement is a testament to the dedication, innovation, and collective spirit of the Relinea team, who have worked tirelessly to make the company stronger than ever.
To mark this incredible achievement, Relinea celebrated Financial Freedom Day on Friday 11th April with a special event for all staff. The celebration featured a hog roast dinner and lively entertainment by renowned comedy hypnotist Dale Thomas. It was a well-deserved moment of joy and camaraderie, bringing the team together to recognise how far they’ve come and the bright future ahead.
A Legacy of Innovation and Growth
Relinea’s journey began in 2005 as GRP Systems, the brainchild of Karen Maguire. Karen saw an opportunity to bring a better alternative to traditional materials to the local market, and a composite solution that outperformed the competitors. Starting with just three employees, the company quickly outgrew its initial premises, leading to the development of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in 2010. With a focus on structural fabrication and moulding, Relinea built a reputation for high-quality, durable, and innovative GRP solutions.
In 2012, the company rebranded as Relinea, reflecting its mission to realign industry thinking and promote the benefits of GRP. Over the years, the company has evolved through continuous research and development, ensuring it remains at the forefront of the industry. In 2017, we took a significant step forward by establishing our own in-house design department. Having our own design team has been a great asset, allowing us to provide customised solutions, streamline project execution, and maintain a high level of quality and innovation across all our offerings.
The Move to Employee Ownership
In 2022, Karen Maguire made the decision to transition Relinea into an Employee Ownership Trust. More than just a succession plan, this move was about sustainability and ensuring that those who built the company had the opportunity to drive it forward. Employee ownership gives every member of the team a direct stake in the company’s success, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
By becoming an EOT, Relinea reinforced its commitment to long-term stability, ensuring that decisions are made in the best interest of the business and its employees, rather than external investors. This structure has helped cultivate a motivated workforce that is deeply invested in the company’s growth and success.
Achieving Financial Freedom
Since becoming an EOT, Relinea has nearly doubled its turnover. This rapid growth and financial success have been driven by the commitment of every employee, proving that a shared vision and collective effort yield remarkable results. Initially projected to take five years, the company has successfully repaid its financial obligations in just three years. This milestone highlights the effectiveness of the company restructuring and hard work and dedication of the new management team and wider workforce.
Additionally, we have built and nurtured close connections with our customers and successfully entered new markets, such as the data centre sector, which has significantly contributed to our growth and success. Furthermore, our strong presence in the water treatment and construction sectors has continued to be a driving force behind our success. By delivering high-quality, reliable GRP solutions to these industries, we have strengthened our reputation as a trusted partner for major projects. This combination of strategic market expansion, customer relationships, and innovative design capabilities has been key to our ongoing growth.
Relinea’s success is not just about numbers. Alongside paying off its debt, the company has reinvested in workplace improvements, ensuring better conditions for all employees. And, crucially, as an EOT, Relinea has continued to reward its team with tax-free annual bonuses of up to £3,600, recognising their invaluable contributions.
