Sustainability

Early engagement through planning and design combined with robust advanced composite product solutions creates a reliable and sustainable future for construction.

Sustainable GRP

The sustainability concept, as described in the Common Future (World Commission on Environment and Development, 1987) states that:

Sustainable development is a process of change in which the exploitation of resources, the direction of investments, the orientation of technological development, and institutional change are all in harmony and enhance both current and future potential to meet human needs and aspirations. Sustainable development “…meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

The concept of sustainability imposes “a new way of thinking” in which the realisation of current needs should be made with regard to the environmental impact, limited natural resources and economic restraints.

The construction industry consumes more resources taken from the Earth (up to 50%) than any other industry. The construction, operation and subsequent demolition of all built facilities account for 40 –45% of the global energy use. It is therefore imperative that we all work towards reducing our impact on the environment to ensure a sustainable future.

The primary benefit of using GRP composite products will be its role in solutions that seek to extend the service life of existing structures and to develop new structures that achieve superior service life with minimal maintenance whilst using it’s exceptional light weight to strength ratio to reduce the carbon footprint of the project as a whole.

With a revolutionary approach that focuses on intelligent GRP design and the use of innovative composite manufacturing techniques Relinea is able to develop solutions that have a much lower carbon footprint and a less polluting impact on the environment than traditional steel and concrete.

At every stage of our process we reduce our environmental impact through innovation, R&D and waste minimisation.
