Problem/Challenge

RPS as the consulting engineers had originally specified stainless steel for all secondary steelwork within the water treatment plant due to the highly corrosive environment. An alternative solution was required due to the high cost of stainless steel.

Solution

Relinea were invited to propose a cost effective, high quality finish product of an equal standard to the stainless steel access equipment originally specified within the contract for the filter gallery and lime slurry tank areas.

In partnership with RPS and Kildare County Council (the owners); and further following site trials it was agreed to use Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) as an alternative to stainless steel for the platform access equipment for the plant. Using GRP further offered a corrosive free alternative at approximately 70% of the cost of the original stainless steel equipment.

Relinea delivered the project on time, on budget and to a very high standard to the complete satisfaction of the client. Relinea’s range of structural GRP products surpassed all the expectations of the Ballymore Eustace Water Treatment Plant owners and the RPS design consultant.
