Problem/Challenge

Relinea had worked with Glan Agua on a number of schemes and were aware of the many benefits of GRP. They were keen to look at GRP as an alternative to steel for the walkways and platforms.

The main parts of the plant were located inside, so corrosion was limited but the internal location meant that the lifting of heavy steel beams could be problematic.

Following a rigorous tender process, Relinea’s GRP option was more competitive than the steel and Glan Agua awarded us the order for both sites.

Solution

Our in-house design team carried out a full site survey and created 3D models of all parts which were then combined with Glan Agua’s model. This coordination avoided clashes and provided an enhanced visual presentation of the project with walk-throughs.

Modular pre-fabricated sections were built in our workshop and delivered to site. The result of our coordinated design approach ensured a speedy installation with limited requirement for heavy lifting equipment.

The use of GRP for the walkways and platform will ensure that Letterkenny and Creeslough water treatment plants will allow for a cost-effective operation and maintenance phase for Glan Agua, their client and the consumers of the Letterkenny Regional Water Supply Scheme.
